One of my favorite pieces of the Benedictine CARE materials is the way Teri provides rich illustrations and images of the concepts she covers. At tonight’s Centering & Quietude practice group, we’ll look at how our contemplative practices help us move from being a juggler to becoming a focused bowler. I’ll be interested to hear what images have come to you as you put these concepts into practice. I hope to see you tonight.
Yes! I love the juggler becoming a bowler. Also in chapter one when the juggler drops all the balls and just “puts it all down”. For some reason I often go back to that image when I realize I’m hearing a bunch of “if then” statements and “shoulds and coulds” from my advocates. I think of the drawing of the little man with his pile of balls at his feet and smile. I thought I was the only one that could not continue to keep all the balls in the air! Teri’s drawing reminds me that if the advocates (even the well meaning ones) can be more than any juggler can handle. :)
