At tonight’s CARE practice group, we get to shift our focus to the Benedictine value of Stewardship. In the monastic tradition, Stewardship isn’t brought forward as a financial obligation (as thought of in many church settings). Rather, Stewardship is honoring each thing (including our bodies!) as tremendous gifts to be cared for in a manner that brings the strengths of that gift forward (vs. restricting or muting).
Each Benedictine CARE Chapter includes a Stewardship section. This is where the physiology of our bodies is admired and studied (the core clinic version of CARE goes more deeply into the science of “lifestyle as medicine”).
I have found our conversations at the Stewardship meetings to be such a tender conversation around health vs. overwhelming lists of “shoulds”. I hope you find them to be valuable, too!
