I was recently asked about Sproud unsweetened pea protein milk. I have not personally tasted the product yet but here are my thoughts on the label:
Here are the strengths of the product:
1 cup contains 1 full serving of protein and healthy fat
The fat comes from canola oil which is rich in heart-healthy mono-unsaturated fat (if you have questions about using canola, pls post them here)
Peas (and oat) are more sustainable items to make plant-based milk from than almonds
It is supplemented to match the profile of dairy milk (vit A and D)
What to watch for:
Note that this product does contain supplementation: be sure to count these in your total intake (if you take a multivitamin, use protein drinks/powders/bars that also contain added supplementation
Caution for those with kidney disorders: this product contains “dipotassium phosphate” which is a source of supplemental potassium; this is OK for healthy individuals but anyone with compromised kidney functioning or others needing to monitor potassium due to medications need to be cautious
